60 seconds with… Point G
DJ Gregory, or Point G as we now know him has been laying the foundations on some epic house cuts as of late, none more so than his latest release for the guys behind Dungeon Meat. Here we have a quick chat to him on his current shenanigans.
I can imagine your studio to be pretty epic with every piece in the jigsaw being vitally important, can you give us an insight into it?
I work with a lot of samples that goes through the MPC3000 to end in the computer then I use a lot of analog synth. These can go through certain Guitar pedal or vintage FX , as the Point G sound intends to stay basic and raw; I try to keep it simple.
On the latest Dungeon Meat release, how did you go about the method within the release?
With the Dungeon Meat crew we did a few listening sessions as I’m producing more than releasing. There is a lot of extras we went through in order to build something we were happy with.
And inspiration, were there any specific ideas you pin pointed into the track?
This release has a New York style old school ethos I would say.
And with summer on the horizon, where can we see you play? What can we expect from a Point G summer set?
I’ll be out and about over Europe, France, Italy and the UK of course and certain summer ones like Ibiza; that set will be shiny.
How has the concept of the live set changed over the past 4 years or so you have been doing it?
Actually over the past 3 years the live element is more energetic, still deep but with a more epic feel. I have noticed that its constantly changing.
And just for fun with regards to the Dungeon Meat release -Describe the record in five words.
Basic, raw, energetic, fat, shuffled.
What is it about this record that will appeal to the fans?
The raw aspect of the Point G sound for the floor which oriented for the Dungeon meat heads.
How does it differ from your last release?
It differs due to the fact that I did try to find a balance between the Point G sound and the Dungeon Meat vibe.
If you had the chance to play this in any club, which would it be?
Like I did or will? I’d say Weather Festival in Paris, DC10 in Ibiza or E-Boded in Tel Aviv.
