Hailing from Moscow and residing in London, psypad aka Ivan Tolokonnikov was inspired by the vibrant early underground electronic music scene russia had to offer. He returns with his new EP “Dreamscape /Reality”. We have a quick chat about his latest release…
1) Describe the record in five words.
Progressive, fat and groovy, both gritty and atmospheric.
2) What is it about the record that will appeal to the fans?
This EP shows how much I have developed my production skills since my previous release. Both of the tracks are meant for the dance floor, but at the same time ignore some compositional concepts of the fusion of genres these tracks are inspired with. At least that makes both Dreamscape and Reality a very interesting entry to my discography.
3) How does it differ from your last release?
My previous release, the 11-track album Sonos, was released in 2015. There I told one big story – the story of one year of my life. This album is very variative in genres and in it’s sound. It was all about the search of my own sound. Well, I found and developed it together with my skills.
4) What was the inspiration for this release?
Ladies, beer and frenchies.
5) If you had the chance to play this in any club, which would it be?
I would love to play Reality at Amnesia or DC-10 and Dreamscape at a place like Sunset Ashram, for just-after-sunset rave.
